How to stop a nosebleed
There’s nothing quite irritating like a nosebleed. Whether it be through winter dryness, a punch in the nose or just by a harsh picking of the nose. Nose bleed can be pretty dangerous or even fatal if left untreated. The first thing you should do in the even you have a nosebleed is to blow your nose. A hard blow will take the blot clot out. The blood clot is what’s standing in the way of the blood vessels to keep it from closing. So when the blood clot is gone the elasticity of the blood vessels will automatically cause it to close and thus stop the bleeding.
The second thing you can do is plug the bleeding side with wet cotton. Wet the cotton with decongestants, such as afrin nasal spray. Though decongestans would be good but they only work temporarily and abusing them may hurt the nasal cavity. A better liquid would be white vinegar. The acid in the vinegar burns gently. If you don’t have cotton you can use plain gauze. Wet it before putting in your nose. Make sure it is properly sterilized. You can easily remove it by putting your nose in cupped hands filled with water. This should loosen it to come out.
You can also apply pressure my pinching the nose. Squeeze the soft part of the nose with the cotton inside and squeeze for about 5-6 minutes. This should stop the bleeding. If the bleeding still hasn’t stopped, repeat this a second time. Be sure to sit up. Lying down or put your head back you will be drinking blood. An ice pack can also be helpful. Cold helps to narrow the blood vessels and thus stop the bleeding.
Picking your nose is completely forbidden. It takes at least 10 days for the rapture to completely heal and picking your nose would only make it worst. Applying antibiotics is strongly encouraged as it will reduce bacteria built up, thus reducing mucus which will cause the itching. This will help to reduce the chances of nose picking.
Remember to get enough iron. If you’re prone to frequent nose bleeds you need to get your blood count up. Try avoiding aspirin as it interferes with blood clotting. Also watch your salicylate intake. This is a saltic acid found in most common foods. Some of these foods are; apples, mint, cloves, almonds, bell peppers, pickles, tomatoes, cherries, grapes, raisins, coffee, tea and tangelos..
Get enough vitamins C. Vitamin C helps to form a substance called which helps to create a moist protective covering for your sinuses and your nose.
Do not smoke. Smoking only increases the dryness in your nose. If necessary get a humidifier. Be sure that it is properly sterilized according to the manufacturers guide. Fill it with equal portions of water and vinegar and run for 20 minutes.
All these are practical examples of how to stop a nosebleed. If nose bleed continues after you’ve tried these steps you should see a doctor as continued bleed can be fatal.
