Instant replay in mlb

The NFL was the first to have instant reply, followed by the NBA, college football, and college basketball. After the blown call in Wednesday nights angles and white sox game, if a matter of when, not if.

It was a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning. The angles were on the verge of sending the game to extra innings. Kelvim Escobar was pitching great and had Ozuna down in the count with 2 strikes. Escobar threw a nasty pitch, Ozuna swung and missed at the ball. That was the 3rd out, the angles catcher instinctively rolled the ball to the pitchers mount and went to get ready for the 10th inning. However the empire was indecisive with the call, which allowed Ozuna to run to first base because the empire thought the ball hit the ground. In the MLB, if the ball hits the ground of the strike out pitch he may run to first base, at which point the ball must be thrown to 1st base to get him out. Next Batter hits a double in and White Sox win the game.

However, it is clear that the ball did not hit the ground. The empire with indecisive with his signals which allowed Ozuna to make the decision. When the manager of the angles came to debate the call, the empires managed the situation as bad as you can. No one would take control. By the time it got to the 3rd base empire that had the best view, it was too late to overturn the call. If the call was made correctly the angles could have won in extra innings.

So what if we had instant replay. Would it take away from the game? Of course it wouldn’t be used to challenge every ball and strike rather if a ball was foul or if a batter was safe or out and if a ball hit the ground. How would it be used? Only for post season, only for the 9th inning? This play could change Commissioner Bud Selig mind that is against instant replay. Last year in a poll, team owners were split 15-15 on whether they would approve instant replay.

I feel that not having instant replay in MLB is going to end within the next few seasons. Something that has worked so well in other sports should be in MLB and they real reason is why not.

I honestly think IR should only be utilized on ALCS, NLCS and the Series itself. No coach challenges. Any questionable call should go automatically under review. That includes everything. Yes, the game would be longer BUT, in this case, the stakes are high and it levels the playing field for both teams. I think the fans would appreciate it and so would the players and coaches.

Instant Replay is very important. Umpires are not perfect persons, right? Remember A-Rod’s cheat in ALCS 2004 Game 6? They hardly decided what is the call if it is a tag or an error. How about fan interferences (especially the Yankee fans)? These will be avoided if Instant Replay will be implemented.
