It’s back to school time! In some places school has already started and a few othes still have weeks to go. it’s always an exciting but busy time. Here’s a few tips to make the transition easier.

It’s back to school time! In some places school has already started and a few othes still have weeks to go. it’s always an exciting but busy time. Here’s a few tips to make the transition easier.

If you still have time before school starts begin to get kids to bed closer to their regular school bedtimes and start getting them up earlier.

Check jackets, gloves, and boots. In most places you don’t need these right away but that first cold snap is a terrible time to realize that last year’s boots don’t fit or the jacket has a broken zipper.

Test clothes for fit. Put together outfits (or combinations) as a test run. Plan the week 1 wardrobe. This may save you from some tough mornings that first week.

Be extra patient with your kids. They are excited and nervous about a new school year and may be experiencing some anxiety. Go visit the school and walk around if it is a new school.

Plan a get together or play date with some school friends you may not have seen this summer.

Double check all your school supplies.

Plan a fun surprise for the first week. A special family dinner after the first day of school to talk about the day or a first week present; that shirt you said was too expensive, new shoes or another backpack.

Confirm day care, after school programs or the school year nanny.

Confirm bus times or walking route. Plan walking buddies or timing to meet for the bus.
