John Knox, born in 1505, 151, or 1515, was a Scottish priest who adopted the Reformed faith in 1545. The times were not easy. His early mentor, George Wishart, was burned at the stake about 1547. After the surrender of the castle in which he resided, he spent a year-and-half as a French galley-slave. He spent time in Geneva and returned to England. In Scotland in 1560, he helped organize the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Knox died in 1572, having left a profound mark on the Protestant reformation. He was a man of strong character.
