It’s Back to School for most of the country. A sort of “second attempt” at new beginnings, though not usually quite as strong as the New Year’s Resolution kick!
What if we decided to go Back to School along with our kids? What if we decided to learn how to manage our finances?
Finances is a scary subject for most of us – especially me, when I can hardly do enough math to balance my chequebook! The very thought of seeing where we really are, financially, can make us break out into a cold sweat! I know, I’ve been there a number of times. I find finances the hardest things in the world to manage!
However, over the past 4 years I’ve manage to vastly reduce our debt, and I’ve also managed to vastly increase our savings. I’m not finished the journey, but I’m on my way.
Yes, finances can be frightening, but let’s take the plunge, and let’s do it together!
Here’s where to begin. . .
You can’t fix something if you don’t know how or why or how badly it’s broken. This will be the hardest assignement of all. If you can do this, we can get to the light at the end of the tunnel!
We’ll break this into three parts to make it simpler!
The first step is to get a standard letter envelope and put it in your purse/wallet, and save every single receipt for this month. Make sure you get one for EVERYTHING, including coffees, those magazines you buy on the spur of the moment, newspapapers, EVERYTHING. If you can’t get a receipt, write the amount and date on your envelope.
Don’t do anything with those yet, just collect.
That’s step one. Join me in a day or two for step two!
