On Thursday, after the long anticipation Larry Brown was fired as New York Knicks head coach. It came as no surprise, what was a surprise was the fact that Isiah Thomas will take the job. Thomas who is the Knicks current GM, has been criticized greatly for his poor job as GM. Firing Brown was not the right decision.
In Brown’s lone season in New York, the Knicks stumbled to a 23-59 record — second worst in the NBA and matching the most losses in club history. However as you can see below, this is normal for Brown. His first season is always poor, fouled by an amazing turnaround.
Brown’s worst seasons as NBA coach
* Teams Made Playoffs
| Team | Record | Season W/ Team | Next Season W/ Team |
| ’88-89 Spurs | 21-61 | First | 56-26* |
| ’05-06 Knicks | 23-59 | First | Fired |
| ’97-98 76ers | 31-51 | First | 28-22* |
You could argue that Brown is the greatest basketball coach of all time. He is the only person to coach a team to a NBA Championship (2004 Detroit) and NCAA College Basketball Championship (1988 Kansas.).
Thomas said in the statement. “This has been a difficult time for the entire organization and our fans.”
“Larry Brown is a great coach, but for various reasons, bringing him to the Knicks did not turn out the way we had hoped and we wish him the best in the future.”
Quite frankly, Isiah Thomas needs to be the one getting fired. He has done the worst possible job as gm. Getting a group of players that don’t fit together. Trading for overrsted and over payed players such as Jalen Rose and Stephon Marbuary. The Knicks have a payroll of over $120 million, by far the highest in the league.
Brown has told the post he won’t coach next year. Brown is 1,010-800 in 23 seasons as an NBA coach, making previous stops in Denver, New Jersey, San Antonio, the Los Angeles Clippers, Indiana, Philadelphia and Detroit. He’ll be back . . . eventually.
