Permanent Hair Removal? Never shave again permanent? Well I, for one, am very tired of having to shave my legs. I always seem to cut myself and there are always the issues of ingrown hairs, stubbles and irritated skin.

So, as my irritation with shaving grows I am looking into permanent hair removal solutions such as Electrolysis and Laser Hair Removal. Below are some of the facts on each of these hair removal techniques.

Laser Hair Removal:

Laser destroys hair follicles by emitting light on a certain wavelength. Newer Intense Pulsed Light technology removes hair by beaming a light of multiple wavelengths into the follicles. It is a less effective method, but also less dangerous. Laser Hair Removal works best on light skin and dark hair. Both methods require multiple sessions, usually four to six treatments spaced a month apart.

Each session can take between 10 minutes to 25 minutes depending on the size of the area you are getting done. You can experience mild discomfort and some centers suggest you take aspirin or Anbesol beforehand.

After a series of treatments is complete the results should be permanent. Each session can run from $150 – $3500 each, depending on the area of the body you are having done.

Electrolysis:

A needle that carries an electric current is inserted beneath the skin into one hair follicle at a time to destroy it. The electricity causes localized damage to the areas that generate hairs. It usually takes several 15-minute sessions per area every 2 weeks for 6 months and once complete the results should be permanent. Since Electrolysis involves tiny pinpricks it can be painful. Improper procedure can result in partial to full regrowth, lasting skin damage and spread of infection. Each 15-minute session can run form $20 to $150 depending on the size of the area being treated.

In short, Laser Hair Removal and Electrolysis are alternatives to shaving that are worth looking into. Although they have a high price tag, the results of permanent hair removal are a desirable outcome.
