Be Patient. Patience is essential to parenting and perhaps the most important. You have to teach your children everything they will ever need to know in life.
Manage Your Anger. Knowing how to mange your anger is vital too. Yes, kids can be frustrating. Kids like to test the boundaries and they tend to make parents angry in the process. You have to know how to control your anger and discipline with love.
Sense of Humor. Yes, parenting requires humor. Sometimes kids can create the most funny secnarios. Every parent has experienced a time when they know they should be punishing their kid but it is just too funny not to laugh about it. Humor is something important that you can pass on to your children.
While trying to develop the above skills, do develop the following qualities:
Unconditional Love
All children must be aware of their parent’s love for them is unconditional. This means that we must continue to love our child regardless of their success or failure. We shouldn’t love our children based on WHAT they do, but WHO they are to you.
Be Fair and Honest
All children learn by example, especially from their parents. Leading by example is a great way to instill a right values in your child. It’s important to live your life as a positive example for your child, remembering that kids often see and hear much more than we realize.
Encourage Success
Encourage your child to succeed in whatever venture they decide to do. Whether it’s getting excelling at sports, having good grades or being involved with other activities. You should offer plenty of patience, praise and understanding. Also, parents should make it their purpose to be supportive in whatever endeavor their child decides upon.
Be Consistent
When it comes to disciplining your children, consistency is of the utmost importance. Discipline should never depend upon the parent’s mood. The same exact consequences must be used each and every time the unwanted behavior happens regardless of any outlying factors. Children need their world outlined in black and white, with boundaries, rules and supervision.
