Starting and running a limousine or taxi cab company involves many tasks, especially if you have several vehicles and employees. You may not want to add marketing to your “to do” list, but it’s essential to have a steady stream of customers in order to stay in business.

Of course, you can place ads in your local yellow pages along with all of the rest of the taxi cab and limousine companies. However, there are some other newer marketing strategies that you can use to get a jump on your competition – and reach potential customers first.

Many of these advertising strategies also allow you to target your ads to reach a specific market, so you don’t waste your time and money marketing to people who won’t use your service anyway.

1. Search Engine Local Listings  - Get a free local listing on the major search engines: Google, Yahoo and Bing. Your company gets a listing on the map, including contact information and business details. This can be an easy way for customers to find you – even if they aren’t looking for you. You see, if a person looks up information on a company, all businesses in the vicinity will appear on the map image displayed. If that location happens to be your neighborhood, guess what? your business will appear on the map.

If you want to outsource your ad campaign to somebody else – this can be a low-cost, effective means of doing it. Let them place all the ads, and you handle all the incoming customer calls.

3. MiNeeds.com – This is an online ad network where service companies can post listings for people who need a particular service (such as a limo ride). It is free to set up a company profile. The website also lets customers post reviews. Having lots of positive customer testimonials about your service can help “sell” your limo or cab service to other new customers without any additional effort on your part.

4. Advertise on Facebook – Facebook offers pay-per-click advertising, where businesses can open an account for free and pay only when a visitor clicks on ads placed. A great feature about Facebook advertising is that it allows targeted advertising where businesses can reach potential clients by location, age, gender, interests, etc. This is ideal for a Limo or taxi company that wants customers from a specific geographic location.

5. Give Away Promo Items - See if you can form partnerships with local bars, clubs, restaurants or other social event locations where you can leave free promotional items for clients (such as keychains) with your contact information on them. It’s better to pay more for an interesting or fun item that will be noticed rather than pay less for something that is ordinary looking.
