Memorial week-end BBQ ideas

Built by Robin Dary on Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Memorial week-end is the classic beginning of Summer. The calendar may show it later but we all think of it as memorial week-end. Whether you are entertaining friends, relatives or just your family it’s a great time to BBQ and enjoy fresh Summer salads.

Burgers, brats and kabobs are fun and easy to do. Get fancy with the burgers and add blue cheese and spinach to beef or mango chutney and diced green apple to ground turkey.

Marinate chicken overnight in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and lemon pepper. This works on chicken kabobs too. It is really good!

Have fun with the drinks too. Try club soda with sliced lemons, limes and oranges, sparkling pomegranate soda with lemon sorbet, lemonaide with sliced strawberries are all very easy and make a nice presentation.

There are so many summer salad ideas. Mix greens, fruit and nuts. My current favoite is mixed greens with roasted pecans, strawberries and feta cheese. Use balsamic vinegar or a strawberry vinagerette as the dressing. Fresh spinach, pears, shaved romano cheese and pine nuts is great too.

For dessert think outside and summery too. Angel food cake with sliced strawberries and whipped cream, lemonaide cake, fruit salad with lemon juice and mint, or apricots, blueberries and a good cheddar cheese.

Find some fun napkins or paper plates too. It’ll just change the mood from everyday to extra fun.

Have fun at your Memorial week-end BBQ.
