Mixed Media ART

Because my interests are expanding all the time, I have decided to blog on a wider range of topics within the “ARTS” realm.

There is now a huge movement towards all sorts of Mixed Media arts including Altered Art, ATC’s, Visual Journals, Collage, Art Dolls, Flat dolls, Fabric Books, Fat Books, etc etc. I must admit to playing with most of these and even teaching a class or two.

I have been using the dolls body as a canvas for my art for quite a while now, so I spose the movement towards these new genres is to be expected.

There is something very childlike in creating a collage in the visual journal with glue, water colour paints, chalks and pastels and ripped magazine pages. I Love adding words to portray what I am trying to say in the collage. I think this kind of creativity really does need us to suspend judgement and let the child inside us out! One of my most favorite things to do as a child was “colour in”.

I have kept a visual journal for some years now, however I only add to it when I feel the need. I do make sure that I date each page as I write in it. I also like to paint about 10 background pages at a time so that they are ready to go when I need them.

ATC”S…….aka artists trading cards are a great way to practise making small pieces of art on a daily basis. They are the size of traditional playing cards and can be made using fabric or paper and can also include some three dimensional

bits and pieces. It is really fun to trade these with other artists. I do notice some artists have started to sell their ATC’s…not something that is approved by a lot of artists.! Interesting!
