My New Laptop Notebook Computer: A Contrast in Recent History

Built by Author Unknown on Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Although laptop notebook computers have been around for several years now, their technology has changed. So much so, that the original ten-pounder is an old dinosaur compared to the light and thin, streamlined versions I have today.

With smaller and lighter components and boards, lightning speed and enough room to virtually store a library, the laptop notebook computer is truly the computer geek’s best friend. If you can remember back to the 1980′s desktop, when 40 megabytes was a dream come true, you’ll know what we’re talking about! I use to own an Amiga 2000 with 100 megs, and I was the head geek!

In those days, you were happy to have a text editor, thinking it the most marvelous thing. Windows didn’t exist (although, on the Amiga, we had already had a graphical user interface system), and you had to be a bit more techy to even turn it on. You had to know DOS commands, and your non-computer literate friends kind of laughed behind their hands at your apparent joy with this wonder of technology. This slow old fogey had a treasured spot on your desk and didn’t travel with you. Like a granny in a rocking chair, it sat there waiting for you to come home.

Today’s laptop notebook computer is a miraculous invention indeed. It goes anywhere you go, including to the beach, coffee house, work or flying overseas. Wireless technology gives you instant, seamless access to find out anything about anyone on the net. It’s a virtual library in a box, with all the information you can store at your fingertips at any given moment. You can conduct your business from anywhere in the world, taking all of your stored information with you.

Authors and journalists, computer programmers, business owners and just ordinary people can use this wonderful invention to keep in touch and perform their work without missing a beat. Travelers can keep in touch with family members and friends, exchanging messages and photos with just a click of the mouse. Mobility is the bottom line. Some business people even complain at the ready access the laptop notebook computer provides. Your vacation in Cabo San Lucas can be interrupted by a quick and easy email or Instant Message from your boss, perhaps spoiling your plans for the evening with an urgent problem, all because you’re so easily contacted.

Then, on the others’ hand, the laptop notebook computer is a boon, when you’re on vacation in the Italian countryside with a 5:00 video conference with your boss. You simply slip back to your hotel or current place of residence, get presentable behind your desk and get online. With your conference over and everyone up to date and back on track, you don your party clothes and go club hopping or wine tasting as though you were never so rudely interrupted.

There’s no doubt about it, the laptop notebook computer is one of the best inventions technology has hatched. In case of a fire, just grab your important papers and your laptop! You’ll be prepared to start anew.
