Previously, doctors often recommended hormone replacement therapy for treating the symptoms that you experience during menopause. However, recently, doctors say that you can also consider natural remedies for menopausal symptoms. Natural remedies can be subdivided into herbs, homeopathy, and other treatments like acupuncture. These remedies are recommended as they do not usually result in adverse side effects and can be effective.

Still, some experts say that such remedies are not for everyone. Those who are at high risk for developing heart disease or other serious illnesses correlated with menopause should still consider traditional treatments like hormone replacement therapy. So this means that natural remedies for menopause are more suitable for those at low risk of heart disease or other illnesses.

Herbs

Research studies show that many herbs are very effective at controlling menopausal symptoms. Two very popular herbs are black cohosh and St John’s Wort. Black cohosh is widely used for hot flashes while St. John’s Wort is used to treat moodiness or anxiety. These herbs have long been used by people in the non-Western world but their popularity is slowly increasing to all parts of the world.

Vitamins

Certain vitamins can help ease the symptoms of menopause. At different times in your life, it is likely that your body will naturally lack different vitamins. For a complete assessment, you will need to speak to your doctor about the extra supplements that may help you throughout menopause.

Soy

Soy has been shown to help prevent hot flashes, a menopausal symptom experienced by many women. Additionally, it has shown to lower blood pressure and helps stimulate disease preventing antibodies in the body. The Asian diet generally includes soy products. However, if you find that you do not get enough soy in your daily diet, you can take soy tablets or try soy milk.

Diet

Have you ever felt horrible physically after a meal of junk food? During menopause you may actually feel worse. Hence, it is important to eat as healthily as possible. Consider adopting a diet that comprises many fruits, vegetables, and grains. Avoid fats and red meat. Also, as you age, your metabolism slows down. It is important to eat in moderation. Drink plenty of water and herbal teas to ease your menopausal symptoms.

These natural remedies for menopausal symptoms are excellent options for those who do not wish to pursue hormone replacement therapy. You need to check with your doctor about which is the best route for you.
