Life coaching as a career has exploded yet the function of life coaching is what pastors do in fulfilling their calling to disciple people.

Yes, it is true that I and many others function as life coaches, the industry of life coaching is exploding. To offer life coach courses is nothing new for most of us, the fact that people would pay hundreds and even thousands of dollars for life coaching courses amazes me.

Much of what I do in my professional career would be in the arena of life coaching. In a sense, most people do some form of life coaching. We may call it by another name like parenting. In the church world I see it as discipling with a bit of a twist — the fact that people wanting to change seek out coaches to help them do so. Yet instead of griping that you do it for free as part of your profession, perhaps you should consider becoming a life coach.

Life Coaching As Ministry Or Business

One life coach I know said that he offers life coaching courses as a ministry and also has a life coaching business. The difference is that in his business of life coaching, clients actually apply his life coaching training.

In contrast, in his ministry of life coaching, his free life coaching is seen as good advice but not necessarily implemented into life by those receiving the life skills training. In fact, he noticed that those wanting free life coaching were the no shows to their appointments while those who paid thousands for his coaching skills made sure to show up for their life coaching course.

So just what does it take in becoming a life coach.

Someday I too will offer life coach courses, understanding that teaching life coaching courses is nothing new for me. Being paid to do so will be what is new in becoming a life coach.
