Open Mind Is Your Mind Always Open?

Built by Matt Z. on Friday, June 30th, 2006

Do you keep an open mind? About everything?

Or, do you close off a new idea just because it sounds new or doesn’t make sense to you? If so, you may want to reconsider your thinking on this subject. Shutting yourself off to a new idea keeps you stuck where you are. Keeping an open mind is vital to opening yourself up to new and better opportunities in life.

“The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.” – Arthur C. Clarke

If you struggle a bit with keeping yourself open to all new ideas, you can begin to change by employing a Question All Things mentality. Question everything you’ve ever been told or taught in books, school, church, by your friends or family, etc. Try to figure out if you believe things because you’ve really given them deep thought or just because you’ve decided what someone else told you is true.

Do you just repeat what you’ve been told is true or have you really formulated your own viewpoints and opinions? You’ll find that this can be a fun exercise. Have you ever watched a child asking why constantly and driving his parents crazy while doing so? Start doing this yourself again. Ask why about everything.

Ask why about your viewpoints on other people. Do you have prejudices that you have blindly accepted? Is it time to re-examine these thoughts and judgments? Ask why about what you see on TV. Is it all that it seems to be or could your government leaders be feeding you propaganda? Could they? Ask why regarding your religious thoughts and beliefs.

Ask why about everything. Keep an open mind at all times.

You and I are essentially infinite choice-makers. In every moment of our existence, we are in that field of all possibilities where we have access to an infinity of choices. – Deepak Chopra
