Organic Hair Care Products

Built by Perriann Rodriguez on Friday, October 30th, 2009

There is the latest craze of buying organic fruit. Everyone talks about how much better it is for you to eat organic fruit, without all the pesticides and other chemicals used to process and grow food. Some question the reliability of the ‘organic’ title and wonder whether what they are paying for is really in fact organic.

Another related trend is the purchase of organic hair care.

Some say (not sure who) that regular shampoos and hair care products contain toxins, preservatives and even potential carcinogens that can be harmful to you and the environment. The scalp can soak up some of these products and cause harm to your health.

I have not seen any definitive research on any of these claims, not that there isn’t research out there. But organic products are a whole new area of hair care that many are buying into.

If you search online for organic hair care, you will see thousands of sites listed that sell various items.

My question is how do we really know that these products are organic and more healthy for us than regular or salon hair care products. Just because a company says so really isn’t good enough. How many times have we heard a company make tons of wild claims, only later to hear they were sued or retracted their statements because they were inaccurate or at best misleading.

Organic products can be very expensive and this industry so far is not regulated. Until there are standards of production out there that all companies must adhere to, I think I will be sticking to my salon and drugstore hair care brands. If anyone has heard details of actual research on products, please leave your comments below.
