For goals to be attainable, certain well-established rules need to be followed if you are aiming to achieve your most cherished ambitions. Here’s some pointers of what goals must be from the most inspiring book I read, “Strategies of the Champions,” by Vicki Peterson:
* A goal must be personal.
It is important for you to really want to achieve your goal, rather than something you think you should do.
* Your goal must be positive.
View your goal from a positive frame of mind. It is impossible to achieve a goal from a negative framework. Example, My goal is not to eat so much today,’ is a negative phrase. Instead, use a positive phrase and add an affirmation in the present tense which focuses on an end benefit, like, ‘ I am now enjoying healthier food more and more. I find ( write down your favorite healthy fruits and veggies ) delicious and satisfying.”
* Your goal must be specific.
Define your great ambition into specific goals which in turn broken down into bite-sized chunks. By the time you get down to your weekly or daily what to do, you’re down to meticulous detail. Your goal becomes attainable and within the grasp of any dedicated goal setter.
* Your goal must be realistic.
The how and when play an important parts in assessing what’s realistic. Write down all the details and set time limits. Time limits are good for keeping you on target to gain your goal but never set unrealistic times which will frustrate your sense of achievement. You may need to reset the timing and give yourself a gentler deadline.
* Your goal must be written.
Writing down your goals enables you look and record your progress along the way.
* Your goals must recognize obstacles but never be diverted or discouraged by them.
