Too often we hear the stories about how someone’s credit card information was

used for fraudulent charges.  Credit card fraud is on the up rise and by using

these helpful tips you can avoid credit card fraud and save you the numerous

problems that may follow and blemish your credit history for years to come.

  1. Signing credit cards when they first arrive. Though obvious you want to

    sign your cards right away even though you may not activate them that same

    day. Anyone can forge your signature on the card and use them, most

    activation process are over the phone and do not require any valid

    authorization for identity.


  2. Don’t give your credit card number  out over the phone to companies you

    are not familiar with or to people who say they need it to verify your

    identity in order to give you something in return.


  3. Keep a running record of your credit card numbers and expiration dates

    and the phone numbers of the card issuers in a secure place. If your card is

    stolen or missing, reporting credit card fraud becomes a lot easier rather

    than having to search for the card company information to notify them of the

     fraud that has taken place.


  4. Destroy your carbon copies and incorrect charge slips all the time,

    never keep them for your records


  5. Report billing errors and unauthorized charges to your credit card

    company immediately.


  6. One of the best methods to avoiding fraud and time consuming

    credit history repair that may follow is to draw a line through blank

    spaces on credit charge slips and do not sign a blank charge slip. To often

    restaurants include an extra line for leaving tips and to often the totals

    are not filled in by the customer, some greedy employees don’t think twice

    to add a few dollars when you neglect to fill in this information.


  7. Always keep copies of all charge sales slips. Open your credit card

    bills promptly and comparer the credit card charges on your statement to the

    sales slips.
