Protective Nutrients For Prostate Cancer
Prostate problems are health issues that are unique to men such as enlarged prostate, prostate cancer, impotency, and faltering libido. Research reveals that about 60 percent of all men between 40 and 59 years of age have benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate. Symptoms starts in frequent urination especially at night to greater urgency of urination and difficulty in completely emptying the bladder.
Molly Siple, author and nutritionist included in her book “Healing Foods For Dummies” , some nutrients that maybe beneficial in lowering the risk of prostate cancer :
1. Taking a daily supplement of 400 IU vitamin E, an antioxidant, can help reduce the incidence of prostate cancer.
2. Selenium, another antioxidant, is almost as effective as Vitamin E in reducing the risk of prostate cancer. This mineral is said to block cell damage, as well as protect the prostate from environmental carcinogens.
3. Vitamin D appears to inhibit the spread of cancer. Sunlight allows the body to synthesize this important nutrient.
4. Lycopene, a phytonutrient in tomatoes, is associated with a lower risk of aggressive prostate cancer.
In addition, the author warns that regular consumption of red meat and dairy products is a risk factor. She cited the Japanese people, who consume a lowfat fish and vegetable diet, have the lowest incidence of prostate cancer in the industrialized world.
