If you keep vacuuming with a basin full of mud it can't do it's job properly, dirt will bounce off the mud, get into the inside of the machine and exhaust dirty air. I don't understand why they don't mention this in demonstrations but it's very important if you want to keep the Rainbow working at peak performance. Also, due to the extra weight added by the water used to filter the air it may not be the canister some will want to deal with if the cleaner has to often be carried up and dwn stairs. Also you definitely amy not pick up any substances -- soot, ash, plaster dust as instances -- that are not water soluble. Spilled dry detergent is also a no-no. Rainbow is not a vacuum you can just pull out of the closet, use and quickly put away. That is why I said this cleaner is an acquired taste. You either love it or leave it.
