Restoring Marble Floors

Built by Author Unknown on Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Marble floors are a soft stone that can develop scratches, nicks and dents over time. Often, home owners think that they must replace their marble floors. This is not the case at all. Restoring marble floors can bring back the luster and shine to the flooring without the expense of total replacement. There are some key factors to keep in mind when you are restoring marble floors.

The first step of the process is to completely clean the marble floor area in your home. Stone can be sanded until the nicks and scratches are removed. You can use a medium grade grit to do the first initial sanding. Make certain to use even pressure. Your floor will look awful at this point but don’t despair. Use a shop vac to remove all the dust from the floor. Switch to a very fine grade grit and sand the floor again. Repeat dust removal with the shop vac.

Once the floor has been sanded well all of the nicks and deep scratches should be completely removed. Any areas that are still showing bad spots can be lightly sanded again with the fine grade grit. Completely dust the floor and lightly mop with a damp mop. Apply a small amount of polish specifically made for marble floors. Buff the polish into the stone until you have a high luster and completely restored floor. It takes a lot of work but is well worth the time and effort.
