Summertime in Sacramento, CA usually means hot weather. They say the heat here is dry heat, but that doesn’t mean anything to anybody who is in the triple digit temperature – it’s really hot, best to endure the heat indoors. And so, most weddings are scheduled in June or earlier during the year.
That said, when brides come in for consultation and wanting hydrangeas in their bridal bouquet, I explain to them that hydrangeas are really thirsty flowers, they don’t do well out of water and in the heat. The most asked for type of bridal bouquet has been the hand tied bouquet – the flowers are gathered and the stems are wrapped with ribbon but the ends of the stems are showing. For July weddings and all through summer, I have recommended to the brides bouquets using the bouquet holder so that the flowers have a source for water. And I recommend using long lasting flowers, like roses, carnations, asters, orchids, etc.
The last wedding we did, we used daisies and carnations because the bride loves daisies and she had a budget that she was sticking with. Last week, we had a bride choose all roses with some fillers to make the bouquet a little more fuller
.
This week, the bride also chose all roses for her bridal bouquet. Her centerpieces were herbs in a basket with yellow daisies in the middle of the basket, for a garden wedding. I wish I took a picture of the bridal bouquet and the centerpieces, but like most of the weddings we do, we had to rush out after completing the bouquets to do the delivery to the church.
