Selling Timeshare: Finding Buyers And Making Profits

Built by Theodore "Ted" Jenkins on Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Most people do not realize that their timeshare is just like any other standard real estate property. If you wish to sell your timeshare, you need to go through a lot of painstaking search, and come up against many dead ends before you can manage to sell your timeshare at a reasonable price. The timeshare business has its share of controversies; many agencies that come forward to buy your timeshare might even rip you off. In order to avoid that, you should be able to judge which agency is genuine, and which is not.

Selling Timeshare: Detecting Unethical Timeshare Agencies

1) Antecedents: In the business of timeshare, you must be careful not to let anyone take advantage of your desperation to sell off your property. If an agency offers to buy your timeshare, or find you a buyer, do a background check on the agency. See if there are any complaints or lawsuits against that agency.

2) Advance Fee: Do not pay any fee in advance to the agency, even if they claim it is refundable. For all you know, the agency may pocket your money and vanish! Alternatively, it might just refuse to refund.

Selling Timeshare: Tips

Assessing The Value Of Your Property

The value of your timeshare depends on the time of the year, location, features of the property on sale, and other factors. You need to assess the price of your timeshare before you can put it up for sale. Contact other resorts in your area to find out their value, and then decide the value of your property. You can also hire an appraisal firm to do the job for you.

Making Profits Through Sale

Since timeshares can be difficult to sell, most owners sell their property the moment they are offered a price that covers the amount it was bought for initially. If you wish to make profits on the sale, you need to set a reasonable price on your property.

Attracting Buyers

Put out advertisements in newspapers and on the Internet. Some websites are dedicated to timeshare buying and selling. You can register with one of those. If you find it difficult to find buyers, or negotiate for the best price, then hire a timeshare agency that will do the job for you.

After all these efforts, if you do not succeed in selling your timeshare at a profit, you can take consolation from the fact that you have to enjoy a great vacation. The price your timeshare fetches depends on many factors, and you need to consider all of them before you decide to sell.

I am so frsutrated with trying to sale my Timeshare that I am ready to donate it just to get rid of it. I paid Timesharequicksale about 2 years ago an upfront fee and since then the only communications between us is the ones I initiate. I am now being contacted by Omega Marketing and they want the same thing "up front" fees. Ken

It irks me everytime I see timeshares treated like "any other real estate property." This is a myth, one which is used to sell people timeshares. The turn-key or second-hand market for them is non existent. Currently, the going rate for timeshares on ebay or craigslist is ONE DOLLAR. And many timeshare contracts are such that you are still paying fees after you spend that dollar. If you are not in love with your timeshare and want out, you are better off going with a title transfer company like Timeshare Relief. NEVER EVER think of timeshares as an investment, a piece of real estate or anything other than an idea. If you are not in love with that idea, chances are it is a bad idea.
