Sexual Harassment Insurance For Businesses

Built by Scott Simmonds on Monday, February 6th, 2006

The need for insurance against claims of harassment, discrimination and other employment related practices issues has been well discussed. Employers are subject to legal action when they are accused by employees (or employment applicants) of harassment, discrimination and other wrongful employment acts.

Frankly, Employment Related Practices Insurance does a good job for most businesses.

How about the legal ramifications of an employee who is accused of harassing a customer or an employee of a customer? What insurance policy can help you then?

Some employment practices liability insurance companies are offering coverage for such third-party exposures. Coverage is usually offered at an additional premium.

There are risk management angles to this as well. Review your employee handbook. Consider adding a harassment prohibition for harassment of third parties. Having a specific policy against such may help you in legal action. Include third party harassment in your employee training too.
