Skills Follow Belief

It’s an absolute fact that skills follow belief when you’re dealing with your self confidence.

Of course, you need to have the proper skills to begin with. Success is difficult to come by if you’re not proficient in your skills

But, if you’re struggling with your self confidence and your mind is filled with doubt, skills will get you nowhere.

By taking a look at pro sports, you can get a good perspective into this idea that skills follow belief.

Professional athletes must have superior skills to begin with. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be where they are. Still, many times pro athletes fall into a “slump” where they’re dominated by the opposition and it seems like they’re fully washed up.

What happened to those superior skills? Did they disappear overnight?

The skills are still there. It’s just that something happened in their mind. For whatever reason, the athlete loses the belief that they’re still good at their craft.

Skills follow belief. Belief comes from what’s happening in your mind. If you’re struggling with your thinking, your self confidence suffers.

So, if your skills follow belief and you’re having trouble with your thinking, what can you do to pull yourself out of your rut?

Get Away

One effective method for re-discovering self confidence is to first get away from your struggles.

For example, sometimes I find myself struggling with my writing. While I enjoy writing immensely, sometimes I feel like there’s no new ideas within me and I have absolutely nothing positive to write and pass along.

In the past, I would fight this and try to work through it.

However, I’ve learned there are times when I need to gather strength by getting away. This allows me new perspective and experience that gives me something new to bring to the table.

By focusing on other areas of interest I gain new energy.

I’m rejuvenated and ready to go. My belief in my ideas is back. My skill was always there, but my belief needed some help.

Just Work At It

Sometimes, in order to break out of a rut and regain self confidence in yourself, it takes a little sweat and perseverance.

Sometimes, instead of getting away, I just force myself to start writing when I’m struggling. It’s the opposite approach to the “getting away” method of re-discovering faith, belief, and self confidence in yourself.

If you’ve been working on your spiritual growth, you’ll know when to get away and when to just plug away.

Your mind and thinking is the key to making the best of things. There are times when just making the effort stimulates something special where your creative juices start flowing out of you.

Instead of feeling inadequate, you suddenly re-discover why you love working at your passions. Your mind is filled with ideas and you find yourself rolling along.

Skills follow belief. If you’re in a rut and lacking self confidence, sometimes you just have to force yourself back into the game and you’ll be on your way.

Skills follow belief. There’s no disputing it.
