Skin care tips for fall

Don’t pack away your sunscreen just yet. Summer may be over but your skin is still at risk of damaging rays.

Most dermatologists recommend using a broad-spectrum skin care product that contains an effective sunscreen that blocks UVB and UVA rays daily. I for one never use a moisturizer without sunscreen. As I look at it, it is one of the best ways to maintain the health of my skin.

Since our skin thrives on moisture it is important we stay well hydrated. Aside from drinking plenty of water, consider sleeping with a humidifier to keep the air in your bedroom moist. Also avoid long, hot showers since they can strip your skin of its natural oils. Finally apply a moisturizer as soon as you get out of the shower or bath to help lock in moisture. I usually just pat myself dry with a towel and then apply my moisturizer.

Your daily skin care regimen does not to be complicated or time consuming. For healthy, glowing skin all you need is a couple basic cost effective products like a soap-free cleanser with beta or alpha hydroxy acids that will clean and exfoliate your skin and a moisturizer with a minimum SPF of 15. I use a moisturizer with antioxidant vitamins E and C and find that it effectively holds moisture to my skin and protects it from the damaging effects of the sun.
