The majority of states charge an income tax based on specific income brackets. Each bracket must pay a certain percentage or minimum amount. The amounts for the income brackets vary from state to state and can be significantly different. However, there are several states without income tax and many people are finding this to be an advantage to living in these areas of the country.
Which places are states without income tax? You can live income tax free in Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. Other states have reduced their income tax brackets to make it easier on people in middle class and lower class incomes. These states that did this include Arizona, New Mexico and Ohio. There is speculation that they too might join the states without income tax.
The most tax friendly state is Alaska. The locals of Alaska do not pay any type of income tax nor do they fork out a state sales tax like many other states. In fact, many people in Alaska receive significant tax refunds from the state because the state ahs so many companies that bear the tax burden that are pumping oil from the state. The excessive revenue from oil drilling and oil pumping in the state of Alaska has taken all the burden of revenue off of the residents of the state and made it one of the most tax friendly states in the US.
