A good salesperson is one who believes in himself. If you want to achieve success in sales you have to expect it. A mentor of mine once told me that expectation determines how much you will actually sell.
In other words, if you expect to make a good profit at the end of the day, you will.
The key is to break down your advertising sales expectations into achievable tasks like, “I will book 10 appointments today and I will make at least 8 sales.”
You have to believe it in order for it to happen. You can’t just want to do something, you have to ‘expect’ it to happen. You have to believe in yourself and in your abilities to make what you want happen.
You can be successful in sales and make the money you desire by setting daily goals and keep repeating to yourself what you’re going to do.
I will earn an extra $2,000 this month in commissions, I will earn an extra $4,000 a month in commissions, I will earn an extra $6,000 in commissions etc.
Once you have achieved your advertising goal you need to take it to the next level and keep building on the belief you have in yourself.
The same theory also applies if you’re a sales manager and you want to get the most out of your team. If you expect little from them, you’ll get little. If on the other hand, you expect a lot from your team, you’ll get a lot.
The key is to change your daily expectations. When you do this, your weekly and yearly expectations naturally follow suit.
Success comes when we set a higher than average goal and focus on exactly what we need to do to get it done.
When it comes to sales, the trick is to stay focused on your goals all day long and never give up. Success WILL follow.
Then reset your advertising sales goals the following day with the same high expectations and focus even harder until you achieve your goal (or surpass it).
It won’t be long before you’re consistently achieving your goals. At which time, your expectations will have become a habit.
Repeat these steps over and over again for even greater success in advertising sales.

You can believe it all you want, but if the businesses you are trying to sell advertising just do not want to advertise with your publication, radio station or internet site OR do not have the money to advertise, then you're not going to succeed. That's life. You can have as many rah-rah sessions as you like and walk out into the field feeling like you can move mountains, but at the end of the day, you're subject to the whims of others. I do believe in staying positive...but you also have to be realistic. Like the saying goes, you cannot get blood out of a turnip. It's just not going to happen. And it does not help that too businesses are being run poorly and have no concept of how to truly advertise their business. Once again, left to the whims of others.
Want to know more about advertising sales. I've just started a small publication but the problem is I don't have enough advertisers. Can you advice me on how to succeed?
