Summertime and Sangria

Built by Robin Dary on Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Summer is already here for many parts of the country. Some of us are still waiting! No matter, we can all get in the easy entertaining Summer mood. White wine sangria is a fun Summer drink and looks impressive for company. There are some great recipes out there.

Sangria is usually thought of with red wine but there are some great white wine sangrias. Mix up a batch with plenty of limes, lemons, oranges and it just looks so pretty.

Here are some great resources for recipes:

This is one of my favorite recipes:

Makes about 3 cups

1 tablespoon sugar (add another tablespoon if you prefer a sweeter flavor)

2 tablespoons cognac or brandy

2 cups dry white wine, chilled (Pinot Grigio works well)

1/2 lemon, sliced

1/2 lime, sliced

1/2 orange, sliced

1 (10-ounce) bottle club soda, chilled

Additional lemon, lime, and orange slices (optional)

Preparation

Combine the sugar and cognac in a glass dish. Microwave on high about 1 minute or until sugar dissolves. Stir halfway through. Add wine and fruit slices to a glass serving pitcher; stir well. Cover and chill for about an hour.

To serve, add club soda, and stir gently. Add additional fruit slices to the glass rims if desired.

Enjoy!
