It is actually easier to discuss the types of foods you should avoid during pregnancy than it is do discuss the foods that are safe to eat.&nbsp;<br />There&#8217;s a lot of food to avoid during pregnancy because they may be harmful to you or your developing baby.&nbsp;<br />Food To Avoid During Pregnancy&nbsp;<br />Deli and Processed Sandwich Meats &ndash; these meats might be contaminated with Listeria, a potentially deadly bacteria that can result in miscarriage or even a stillbirth. While listeria is relatively harmless to most ordinary people, it can be life threatening for your unborn baby. Pregnant women are more susceptible to listeria because of their lowered immune system. If you want to eat deli meats, be sure that you cook them until they are steaming hot, which will help kill any bacteria that might be present.&nbsp;<br />Raw meats &ndash; much lie deli meats, raw meats should be avoided because they can carry bacteria that are harmful for both mother and baby.&nbsp;<br />Certain types of fish &ndash; while most fish is healthy, there are certain kinds of fish that contain high levels of mercury, which is harmful for your unborn baby&rsquo;s brain. Consuming too much mercury during pregnancy can result in developmental problems and even brain damage. The types of fish that contain the highest levels of mercury include: swordfish, shark, king mackerel, tuna, sea bass and tilefish.&nbsp;<br />Raw eggs &ndash; like raw meat, raw eggs have the potential to carry bacteria, particularly salmonella. Believe it or not raw eggs are in a number of various products including some forms of Caesar dressing, mayonnaise and even ice cream. If you are uncertain about whether or not something you are eating contains raw eggs, avoid it unless you can find out for certain whether or not it is harmful.&nbsp;<br />Unpasteurized soft cheeses &ndash; some chesses that are imported also have the potential to carry life threatening Listeria if they are not pasteurized. The most common types of cheese that carry this risk include certain forms of Brie, Camembert, feta, Gorgonzola and Mexican cheeses like queso. If these cheeses are pasteurized however they should be safe to consume.&nbsp;<br />Unpasteurized milk or juices &ndash; remember that any type of milk product or juice that has not been pasteurized has the potential to carry Listeria and other bacteria that may be harmful for you and your baby during pregnancy.&nbsp;<br />You should also avoid alcohol during your pregnancy. There is no known safe amount of alcohol that can be recommended during pregnancy. There are numerous fetal abnormalities and birth defects as well as developmental problems that have been associated with alcohol use during pregnancy. Eating a lot of bread is fattening, but good bread is very satisfying, so there is no need to over indulge, which means that it does not have to become a burden on your waist band.</p>
<p>Likewise, good bread does not need butter or margarine, so that is a further saving on calories and fat.<br />Bread can also be a decent source of dietary fibre and once you have eaten real bread, you will never go back to white, sliced, supermarket bread. In fact, it is the white, sliced bread that gives bread such a bad name.</p>
<p>These recipes are intended to be mixed and baked in a bread making machine, but they can be prepared by hand too. I have used a bread baking machine for years, but I used to make it by hand before that, and I can honestly state that I can not differentiate between them.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Additionally, the machine saves a lot of time and because it bakes on a timer, you can wake up to the smell of fresh bread every morning, if you like.</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline">Celery Bread</span></p>
<p>1 sachet yeast1/4 teaspoon ginger1/4 teaspoon sugar3 cups Better for Bread flour1/2 cup quick-cooking oats2 tablespoons gluten2 teaspoons celery seeds1 1/2 teaspoons celery, garlic or onion salt3/4 cup celery &#8212; fresh / slice thin1 tablespoon celery leaves, fresh / chopped1 egg10 3/4 ounces cream of celery soup1 tablespoon vegetable oil3 tablespoons warm low-fat milk</p>
<p>Blend all items and cook</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline">Citrus Bread</span></p>
<p>2/3 cup water2 cups white bread flour1 teaspoon dry milk2 teaspoons sugar1 teaspoon salt1 teaspoon butter2 tablespoons orange marmalade2 teaspoons lime juice1 pinch lemon peel2 teaspoons yeast (active, dry)<br />Mix all ingredients and bake.</p>

<p>1 1/4 cups warm water2 tablespoons molasses1/2 teaspoon caramel coloring * &#8212; optional.1 1/2 teaspoons malted barley flour **2 cups bread flour1/2 cup whole wheat flour1/2 cup unprocessed bran or wheat bran1/4 cup dark brown sugar (3 TB)1 1/2 tablespoons oat bran1 1/2 tablespoons rolled oats2 teaspoons granola1 1/2 teaspoons salt2 1/2 teaspoons yeast (1 envelope)</p>
<p>Oil and / or butter are not required.<br />* Caramel colouring is just used to give the bread an almost pumpernickel colour. You can get it in a cake decorating store. ** The malted barley flour is also known as diastatic malt powder.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In a bowl mix the bread flour, whole wheat flour, unprocessed bran, dark brown sugar, oat bran, rolled oats, granola, malted barley flour and salt.<br />In a bread pan add water, molasses, and caramel colouing. Add flour mixture; top off with yeast and select dark bread setting.</p>
<p>NOTE: Raisins may be added if required. If you do, do not put the caramel colouring and liquefy in water, 1/4 cup raisins, molasses and brown sugar before adding to the machine.</p>

<div style="color: #353535;font-family: Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 14px;font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;font-weight: normal;letter-spacing: normal;line-height: 15px;text-align: -webkit-auto;text-indent: 0px;background-color: #ffffff">This process did not change over night.&nbsp;A turning point for me occurred about 18 months ago, when a very good friend and colleague of mine noticed how hesitant I was about food choices whenever we would sit down for a meal.&nbsp;&ldquo;<strong>Why don&rsquo;t you just eat what you want to?</strong>&rdquo; Well I was quick to defend my rationing behavior &ndash; low fat, margarine instead of butter, low sugar, low calorie, grains, fruits and vegetables, limited meat etc. The nutrition experts had hailed this as the healthiest way to eat.&nbsp;I had tried eating that way for the better part of 30 years.&nbsp;What<strong>happened is I became obsessed with food.&nbsp;</strong>I was in a constant state of denial around what I wanted to eat, I was always hungry, and looking for food as I kept myself from eating what I really wanted.&nbsp;What I noticed as well was that with all of my rationing I had slowly gained weight over time?&nbsp;</div>

<div style="color: #353535;font-family: Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 14px;font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;font-weight: normal;letter-spacing: normal;line-height: 15px;text-align: -webkit-auto;text-indent: 0px;background-color: #ffffff">I feel better without gluten or wheat products, &nbsp;my body does not tolerate caffeine in coffee but does not seem to mind the caffeine in black tea.&nbsp;I drink decaffeinated coffee yet no longer crave the baking that I see in the display cases at my favorite coffee shop, or the desserts that are laden with sugar and wheat.&nbsp;I am amazed at how I have lost my cravings for these things in my diet<strong>.&nbsp;Never in a million years did I think this was at all possible.<span class="Apple-converted-space">&nbsp;</span></strong>&nbsp;Once in a while, I get a craving, give myself permission to eat what I really want to eat and notice how I feel.</div>

No.&nbsp;Is it the perfect shape?&nbsp;No.&nbsp;Does it feel good and strong as I go throughout my day?&nbsp;For the most part-yes.&nbsp;Do I still have work to do to be in better relationship with my body? Absolutely.&nbsp;Am I on the right path? For sure.</div>
