Taking Time Out to Reflect

Built by Glenn Cutforth on Tuesday, November 15th, 2005

At some point on your journey to reaching your goals, you’ll need to take some time to reflect in order to determine where you are, where you’ve been, and how this is affecting where you want to go.

A great way to track your progress is to keep a journal. There are many ways to do this, the most popular being a blank notebook or even a blank bound book that you keep for this purpose. If you write down everything you’ve done that day to reach your goal, you will find it often triggers new ideas and ways to overcome any stumbling blocks you may be dealing with at the moment.

Some people prefer to use a tape recorder to get down their thoughts and ideas. This methods will have the same effect if you are more verbally inclined.

However, there are more ways to keep a journal than just writing in a notebook or talking into a tape recorder. If you are someone who likes to share your thoughts, you might try blogging. Blogging has become extremely popular and it’s a good way to put your thoughts down and out there into cyberspace and it’s not that difficult to setup your own personal blog. You can do that for free at Blogger.com or you can get your own domain and install free blogging software, such as WordPress.

Personally, I find the best time to reflect and assess is after achieving some part of my goal. There is usually a natural climax that comes with an accomplishment that warrants a bit of time off to make sure I’m on track. I use that time to consider what I’ve finished and how it fits into my goals and where I have to go to complete what I’ve set out to accomplish.

Another good time to reflect and assess is when you’ve hit a bump on the road. As you look at the obstacles in front of you, you can usually figure out where they came from and why you might not have seen them coming before you tripped over them.

If you’ve strayed off-course and found the boulder is impeding your progress, this is the time to figure that out and make the necessary adjustments that will get you off the ground and back on your way down the road. It may also cause you to re-evaluate your goals. Have they changed since you first wrote them down?

For example, let’s say your goal was to pursue a doctoral degree and defend your thesis within 3 years of starting your program. Let’s also assume you were single when you started your program but got married while pursuing your education. You might find that your timeline is less important now than it was 2 years ago. You might also find that if you took an extra year to defend your thesis, you’ll have a richer, more productive document to defend, as your spouse may be able to help you consider things you hadn’t thought of before.

Regardless of how you take time to reflect and assess your goals, it’s important that you do so from time to time. The best laid plans will always need tweaking along the way, and by taking the time to reflect and adjust, you’ll discover there are no bumps or obstacles that will keep you from achieving success.

My main concern is that you can't guarantee every page of your website will be included in the SERPs. Considering I'm constantly adding new products to my company's website, I need to be sure that customers can find them as soon as possible.http://www.seoptimizerz.com

  4. Well that’s 10 entries from blogland maybe we’ll visit some others as the contest progresses, gosh May seems far away doesn’t it? Lastly thanks to folks who helped spread the word about my giving the contest prize money to charity, and to all the folks who linked to me, here’s hoping we can turn something completely silly into something good that actually helps somebody, who needs the money much more than most of the people competing. http://www.big-breast-enlargement.com

  5. I am glad to post my views and points in this blog, but I must say that webmaster of this blog has done a very great job to make his blog more informative and more discussable but unfortunately everthing is same here that more than 80% in this and other blogs post their comments for making spam!!!, so i will really all this spam links to google band tool, because webmaster makes blogs for making discuss and for sloving each other problems. thanks http://www.gordoniihoodia.net
