Another week-end, another trip to the library..
I love to read and hope that I can inspire my daughter to love to read. They say that parents that read in front of their kids have a better chance of kids who read.

She has a good collection of books at home and we go to the library on a regular basis to try new books. Sometimes I have something in mind for her and sometimes I let her decide. I try to get books that her daycare uses too. She thinks that is very cool.
If your child has a favorite movie or TV program see if you can find books from that. That will definitely keep them interested.
Read books about your area of the country and take your child to those places. Before you go on vacation read about that area. If your child is interested in dinosaurs, baseball, or ice skating you can find a book on that subject. Give them a special area in the family bookcase or a place in their room designated as the library. There are so many ways to draw them in to reading.
We go to story time at the library on a regular basis. Most local libraries offer that. Check and see if yours does. Some libraries offer reading programs or clubs for the school age kids as summer programs. Mine even offers a book club for teenagers. Free educational entertainment every parent should love that.
You can find discounted kids books on ebay or half.com. You can even sell your used books there. Finding and selling books online is so easy give it a try!
You can trade books with neighbors and friends. This is a great way to save money and find things you might not otherwise. I’ve borrowed a cute collection of old Curious George books from a friend. The illustrations are beautiful and the stories are the classic Curious George tales. It’s been great fun reading through those.
What are some of your favorites?
