Every time a see a Special K commercial that talks about taking the Special K challenge, I often wonder if there might be other cereals that would work as a meal replacement.
Have you ever tried having a bowl of cereal as a meal replacement weight loss program?
My biggest problem with having cereal is portion size. The portions on boxes of cereal are always about 1 cup. If you have ever measured 1 cup of cereal, you know that it isn’t a whole lot of cereal. It is probably 3-4 spoonfuls at most.
After reading some of the popular cereal labels, I think it might be interesting to do some sort of cereal diet and see what happens.
Here is a breakdown of some cereals calories. The calories do not include milk, so be sure to add that in according to the type of milk that you drink.
Frosted Flakes: 110 calories
Lucky Charms: 110 calories
Raisin Bran Crunch: 190 calories
Cinnamon Toast: 130 calories
Life: 120 calories
Special K: 117 calories
Fruit Loops: 118 calories
Multi grain Squares: 110 calories
As you can see there are quite a few cereals that are under 120 calories per serving plus milk. If you were to do a meal replacement for all 3 meals in a day, you could intake only 360 calories plus milk.
Of course I’m not sure how you would do with managing hunger after having only one cup of cereal three times a day. The Special K challenge includes many other food items besides just Special K cereal. They also recommend snacking on fruits and vegetables. The challenge is to replace 2 meals with cereal and other items such as Special K waffles, cereal bars and protein snack bars.
The slogan for the Special K challenge is to lose 1 inch from your waist in 2 weeks. Can it really be done? Leave your comments if you have taken the Special K challenge.
