The nutritional benefits of cashew butter

Built by Joy & Celeste on Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Did you know that there is a wonderful butter made out of cashews?

Cashew butter offers a great nutritional boost to sandwiches, sauces, gravies and dips; and is most often sold in jars in natural food stores.

Nutritionally cashew butter is excellent because it is made without additives. As a result of its additive-free make-up it needs to be kept refrigerated so it doesn’t become rancid.

If kept in a tightly sealed jar in the refrigerator a jar of cashew butter will keep for up to three months.

In addition to using cashew butter as a sandwich spread, its rich flavor makes it an ideal alternative to cream when thinned with liquid.

Cashew butter is particularly delicious in Indian dishes and curries.

Please note that due to its unprocessed nature, the oil and solids may separate in the jar. You can easily rectify this by stirring just prior to using.

One serving of cashew butter (one tablespoon) has 94 calories. It is also a good source of magnesium.

Nut butters are a nutritionally sound component of a healthy diet when used in moderation.
