Carpet cleaning is important to the life span of your carpets. There are several tips that you can follow to make the process easier and more efficient. It is important to clean your carpets on a regular basis to rid them of dirt, stains and odors. Cleaning carpets can give the room a whole new appearance almost instantly.

Spot clean your carpets before doing an entire room clean. Use a stain remover and test a small area to make certain that the rug will not react to it. Ideally, you should clean stains as soon as accidents happen to prevent them from setting into your carpets. Blot the area and soak up the stain remover with towels prior to cleaning the rug. Avoid scrubbing stains because this can seep them further into the carpet.

Determine if the rug should be dry foam cleaned or steamed cleaned. Certain materials do not do well with steam. Additionally, if you steam the rugs must dry. Hot water for wet cleaning will often fade darker colored carpets. Make certain to not use hot steam on dark rugs. Go over the area several times and avoid over-soaking if you use a wet clean. Too much wetness can cause the rug to dry slowly.

Apply a protector chemical to the carpets as the final stage before drying. This will help to repel dirt and stains. You particularly want this coating on the high traffic areas in your home that are carpeted. Use heaters and fans to help speed the drying time. Cover high traffic areas with carpet runners to decrease the amount of dirt and frequency of cleaning. For more on carpet cleaning check out www.CleaningYourCarpets.com.
