More and more people are choosing to purchase contact lenses, rather than glasses. As time goes by, and as knowledge, and technology improves the range of contact lenses available, grows every year. So, what should you be looking for, and what tips should you follow when choosing your contact lenses.

Firstly it goes without saying that you should choose to have your eyes tested by a reputable optician. This will ensure that the prescription for your contact lenses is correct. A good optician will also be able to give you reliable advice on the contact lenses that are most suitable for you.

The type of contact lenses that you decide to buy will also depend on the particular eye problem that you have. If you have a high astigmatism for example you may wish to choose GP lenses. If you have hyperopia the most suitable lenses for you may be toric contact lenses. When purchasing your contacts for the first time, you will of course be given a prescription by your optician, who at the same time can also advise you on the range of contact lenses available and the type which is most suitable for your needs.

You will also need to choose between contact lenses that are removed daily, those that are removed weekly or indeed those that can be worn continually during a whole month. The type you choose will depend very much on the sensitivity of your eyes. Those that have very sensitive or very dry eyes often find that they cannot tolerate contact lenses which are worn continually. Often when choosing contact lenses there is trial and error involved, and you may need to try several varieties until you find those that are the most suitable for you.

If you are someone that plays a lot of sports then you may want to purchase contact lenses which have been specially designed for this purpose.
