In part 1, I discussed the requirements for becoming a transcriber and earning an income working from home. I mentioned a couple of transcription companies that a great for entry-level transcribers. Below are a few companies that hire more experienced transcribers.
Tigerfish only hires U.S. citizens or legal residents. There transcription style guide is on the employment page including audio for the transcription test. The audio contains three 5-minute segments representing typical transcription material: a focus group, an interview, and a presentation.
Morningside Partners is hiring financial at-home transcribers. Hours are flexible. Morningside requires dial-up or high-speed internet, Real Player, and a transcription software or foot pedal for digital .ra (real player) sound files. Morningside Partners is also hiring news transcribers to produce verbatim transcripts of news shows by CNN, Fox, etc. Transcribers must have at least three years of work experience and are paid $18 per half-hour file. They are also hiring editors/proofreaders for various departments.
American High-Tech Transcription, Inc. hires people to transcribe police reports and other legal documents. They only hire experienced transcribers. You must be a U.S. citizen and be a native English speaker. American High-Tech Transcription, Inc. is also hiring Spanish translators (who don’t need to be native English speakers). Transcribers must be able to transcribe at least 5 audio hours each week. All applicants are required to undergo a criminal background check.
Production Transcripts is hiring workers to transcribe interviews, phone calls, lectures, podcasts, seminars, documentary interviews, reality TV shows and more. They don’t accept beginners or students. Production Transcripts prefer transcribers who can transcribe digital video files and digital audio files.
