Type 1 diabetes occurs when the pancreas stops making insulin. The body must be injected with insulin after every meal in order for the body to process food.
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas either doens’t make enough or the body for some reason isn’t processing the insulin properly. Diet and exercise can be used to control this type of diabetes.
Type 3 diabetes– Is there a type 3 diabetes?
Many researchers are pointing to the fact that Alzheimer’s disease may be another type of diabetes. It has recently been discovered that the brain actually produces a small amount of insulin and that the lack of this production could result in Alzheimer’s.
It has always been assumed that the pancreas is the only organ that produces insulin.
More research needs to be done on this subject to come to a more accurate conclusion.
On a related topic, a study in the Journal of Biological Chemistry reports that drinking sugary beverages may contribute to Alzheimers disease. The more sugary drinks you drink, the more weight you gain and the more insulin resistant you become.
