Understanding The Difference Between Psoriasis And Eczema

Built by Evelyn Lim on Monday, March 10th, 2008

It is difficult to distinguish between the two conditions: psoriasis and eczema. Yet there are differences between the two. To determine which condition you have, you will need to have a proper diagnosis from your skin dermatologist. Knowing the exact condition is important for you to apply the right treatment.

Psoriasis is a skin disorder affecting over 6 million people in the United States alone. No exact known cause of psoriasis has been determined, but recent studies have indicated that it may be an immune mediated disorder. Psoriasis occurs when the body generates too many skin cells and may change from one type to another within a matter of days.

When you get a case of psoriasis, your condition may improve, flare up, and even go into remission only to return at a later date. Natural treatments paired with conventional treatments are often utilised to help the patient deal with the negative mental aspects associated with psoriasis. Some sufferers have small bumps which are very itchy and uncomfortable. Those who scratch themselves a lot have skin markings that are thicker than those who have had it on an acute basis.

Eczema is sometimes referred to as Dermatitis which is an inflammation of the skin that produces scaling, flaking, thickening, color changes of the skin, and itching. Sometimes the skin may also develop fluid filled blisters which ooze and crust over. Triggers of eczema have been known to allergens such as include perfumes, cosmetics, medicated creams, and heavy metals such as gold, tin, and silver. The chemicals in soaps and lotions may also cause an eczema flareup. Some sufferers of eczema are also sensitive to sunlight and stress tends to cause more itching.

Natural treatments for eczema and psoriasis are becoming more popular. As psoriasis and eczema appear to have many different potential causes, there is not ONE single treatment that can be considered effective in the majority of cases. Insufficient water intake has been cited as a possible observation of psoriasis and eczema sufferers. Another theory that has often been proposed by alternative health providers is insufficient or ineffective liver or kidney function. When the liver or kidney does not function properly, toxic waste is sent to the skin for disposal, resulting in the inflammations that you observe.

Psoriasis and eczema sufferers can benefit greatly from adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle. Certain foods are best avoided as they can worsen the conditions, while others can accelerate skin repair and help to moisturize dry skin.

It is very important to know the difference between eczema and psoriasis. I have eczema and my son has psoriasis. However, we do not have to know the difference to treat them because I found a product called Regen. It takes care of both issues! They even guaranteed my satisfaction.
