Walk in Bath Tubs: Trouble Getting In Or Out Of Your Bathtub?

Built by Author Unknown on Monday, September 24th, 2007

Physical disabilities, or more often, the aging process can make it difficult for many to use the bathtub without the hazards of falling or without someone’s help in getting in and out of a normal bathtub. Walk in showers may not be the answer due to space consideration or infirmity in standing well enough to take a shower. An appealing alternative is installing a walk in bath tub. These tubs are equipped with a water tight door to allow easy access and egress. You simply walk through the tubs door, close and latch it, adjust your water temperature and have that refreshing, well deserved bath. Drain the water, open the door, step out, and you’ve had your bath without the fear of falling and getting hurt while struggling to step into or out of the tub.

These walk in tubs come in many styles, sizes and colors. They can easily replace your existing tub with minimal work. They are supplied with non slip surfaces and have seats for you. Many include whirlpool functions to erase aches and pains. The controls can be placed for convenience, and these tubs can be enjoyed by young and old alike. There are a myriad of companies offering walk in tubs. Walk in tubs can be fairly expensive, compared to standard tubs. The prices can run into the thousands of dollars, much higher than the few hundred dollars a standard tub would run you.

Since a large percentage of injury related accidents that happen at home occur in the bathroom, and probably half of these incidents involve the bathtub, a walk in tub would be ideal, especially if there is someone in your family with infirmities. The expense involved with buying and installing a walk in tub would certainly make economical sense when compared to the expense of medical treatment and/or hospitalization.

As with the purchase of any major item, be sure to do your homework into the different suppliers of walk in tubs, their warranties, customer service history, and whether they supply installation. If it is up to you to get your new tub installed, be sure to hire a well qualified plumber. If your new tub is equipped with the whirlpool system, you should have a qualified, licensed electrician so to insure proper and safe wiring.
