Water : You Are What You Drink

Built by Teresita C. Tayanes on Monday, September 15th, 2008

How you drink is as important as how you eat. Yet, it’s quite true to say that, most of us simply don’t drink enough. Few of us realize the harm that too little water can do.

Dr. Abram Hoffer, one of the world’s leading experts in orthomolecular medicine and psychiatry, believes that long-term lack of water plays a role in senility and Alzheimer’s disease. He was one of the doctors responsible for introducing ‘water wagons’ into the mental hospitals of his native Canada where senile patients are given no less than fifteen glasses of water a day. Many cases of improved memory function have been reported.

Dr. Hoffer, also a compelling lecturer, frequently greets his audience with this comment : ‘I’m going to give you the benefit of thirty years of research, but most of you won’t remember what I have to say because you didn’t drink enough water today. Lack of water affects your memory and concentration !’ He then gives a ten minute adjournment while the delegates stampede to the water coolers.

Dr. Michael Colgan, a doctor who specialises in counselling sport stars and athletes about the vital need to drink enough water every day, emphasises the winning role of adequate water supplies, but, he cautions, don’t drink tap water. ‘Poisons are seeping insidiously into our water supply, including chemicals, hydrocarbons and arsenic. Most commercially available water filters are useless. Far better to drink steam-distilled or pure bottled water.’
