Well, a habit becomes a habit because we’ve done that particular thing so many times we don’t even think about it anymore. It’s just automatic.

Here’s a trick: observe the habit. Stop and think about it. Simply by giving it some consideration, you interfere with that habit. Whether you think about it before you overeat, during a time when you overeat or even after an episode where you overeat, you will have an effect on the habit.

The more you think about your habit of overeating, the less strength it will have. Destructive habits do not hold up too long in the face of investigation.
