As you know we just moved to a new state. This week-end will be a busy one as we unpack boxes and work on getting settled in. I think the boxes multiplied in the moving truck. Did we have that many when we left?

My daughter is very excited as we unpack her things and find toys again. It’s been quite a fun discovery each time we find her things. It’s almost like Christmas for her.
We are taking a small break tomorrow morning. It is Fuchsia Saturday at a local store. Fuchsia is a beautiful hanging plant. We first discovered it in Cape Cod a few years ago. (I love Cape Codbeautiful homes, pretty beaches, antique shops, fresh seafood. I should write about that in another post sometime). The plant has great pink and purple flowers and has full lush greenery. We tried 2 summers to grow it in Colorado and that climate was just not right for it. (To see a little picture go here, http://www.heyne.com.au/gardencentre/factsheets/factsheet.php/Fuchsias.htm)
The local store is running price specials and helping you pot the plants to take home. I’m hoping to get some tips too. I think this plant needs some shade but I’m not completely sure.
It should be fun for our little one. We are taking in our own hanging baskets. We’ll buy plants and potting soil and they’ll pot the plants for us. I’m thinking we’ll call one of the baskets hers. She can select her plant to buy and watch them pot it. Once we get home that’ll be her plant and she can help water it and fertilize it.
I think it’ll be fun and if you think about it this is really cheap family entertainment. We want the plants anyway and it’ll be fun to do it this way. Who knows by getting our daughter involved she could develop a lifelong passion for gardening.
I remember doing the avocado seed in water as a kid and watching it sprout. As a kid that was so cool. Didn’t we all do that? I may do that with her soon. I’m thinking she’s getting old enough to start doing that and enjoying it.
Hmm, that gives me an idea. Remember planting flowers seeds in little Dixie cups. I may get some flower seeds too. That was fun watching them everyday to see how they’d grown.
Cross your fingers that our fuchsia plants grow and grow!
