Why is sun so important? You know it provides heat, light and food. Aside from it’s being our main source of energy, it kills germs and strengthen our body’s resistance to infection. We open up the windows of our house to allow the sunlight to kill bacteria in our home as well.

The sunlight is also known as the “sunshine” vitamin because unfiltered sunlight in the skin converts cholesterol in the skin into vitamin D. It has been reported that vitamin D therapy may help to control some epileptic seizures. Required by pregnant mothers to prevent rickets in the young. Promotes the healing of broken bones. Vitamin D increases calcium absorption. It also controls enzymes necessary to deposit minerals in bones and teeth. Calcium does a better job of calming the nerves when vitamin D is adequate for absorption.

Researchers are now convinced that natural sunlight has a curative effect on the body but warn us to be exposed on it in moderation as large amounts are dangerous. Limit your exposure to the sun to five minutes per day at first if you are fair skinned, 15 minutes a day for darker-skinned individuals. A goal of 20-30 minutes is a realistic goal for most people. Just remember not to allow yourself to burn. Wet skin burns faster than dry skin, and ultraviolet rays of the sun can reflect off snow, sand and water, greatly increasing your exposure.

Enjoy your morning sunshine in moderation and it will increase your vitality and good health.
