After the holidays, everyone is focused on losing those extra pounds gained during all those fabulous meals. The question remains, is it faster to lose weight by just dieting or should you add exercise?

What if you don’t really want to exercise? Can you still lose weight?

The real answer to those questions is that you can still lose weight by dieting alone, but it will be harder in the long run to keep off the weight that you do lose. Exercise is a great way to boost your metabolism and start your body to burn more calories every day.

Dieting alone- reducing your calories, can be an effective way to lose weight. It is a simple math equation- Calories your put in minus calories you burn equals your net calorie total- if it is positive you will be gaining weight. If it is negative, you will be losing weight. One pound equalis 3500 calories – so if you cut out just 500 calories every day, you will quickly be on your way to losing about 1 pound a week.

If you add exercise to your efforts, you might be burning more calories and in addition to cutting out those 500 calories, you could lose weight a lot quicker. And research studies show that people who combine exercise and diet have a better chance of keeping off any excess pounds. See more weight loss tips and management techniques.
