Nowadays there is a lot of news about swine flu and the deaths it has caused. It has caused worldwide panic. There are many types of swine flu viruses but the most virulent and famous is the SIV (Swine Influenza virus) which is naturally found in pigs, this is where it got it name from. Peroxide is used as a popular disinfectant for wounds and house ware. It contains 5% or less hydrogen peroxide. When used on the wound, it produces bubbling with little pain. Later it gives a feeling that the wound is cleansed. There are some wound disinfectants that are not very clear like hydrogen peroxide and this is a reason why it is considered more preferred wound cleanser by many households.
Swine flu naturally thrives in of nostrils and respiratory tract of pigs. It is common throughout the world. It was widely believed earlier that pig-human transmission is impossible and could never lead to influenza. The worst infection could only be a light fever. No infection could possibly happen even if pork was eaten but it has now become extreme and fatal. Swine Influenza virus (SIV) strain embraced influenza C and the subtypes of influenza A, particularly H1N1 by 2009. It is believed to have started in Mexico and that is from where the worst cases were seen.
The most significant reason why hydrogen peroxide is proffered is because it is not very painful on the wound as compared other disinfectants. The reason why it burns when it comes to contact with the wound is because; The blood contains an enzyme called catalase and the cut has damaged cells containing catalase, it results in bubbles when it mixes with peroxide. Staphylococcus is also present in the wound and they are found in all skin infections, bubbles are formed when they react with peroxide and catalase in the blood’s neutrophil. The last reason is bacteria as they are natural residents of the skin, the bubbles formed are really oxygen bubbles exiting from the catalase.
The reason why swine flu kills young and old is that when their immune system develop an extremely high reaction to swine virus. When a person gets infected by swine flu, it’s not the virus only that gets inside and causes the symptoms but it’s the body’s immune system’s response that triggers the symptoms. Babies and old people who have a weak immune system are likely to get affected. They initially develop symptoms of pneumonia and other infections. The elderly can show worse symptoms as they may not have developed immunity against these viruses.
Swine flu is less understood even in the United and Europe. Swine flu flared up showing symptoms that are very much like an average flu. There have been 20 confirmed deaths in the USA according to the US Disease Control in Atlanta. The World Health Organization in Switzerland says there are in fact 40 deaths.
