Why to get married? How to do it?

Built by francisco on Monday, June 9th, 2008

A civil union between two people whether religious or otherwise is commonly called a wedding; marriage is no longer the province of male/female relationships. The ceremony is an opportunity to perform a traditional service and celebrate with friends and family. the marriage certificate must be signed at the end of the service for the law to legitimize the couple’s relationship. The man getting married is called the groom or bridegroom to give him his full title and the woman the bride; after the ceremony they are referred to as husband and wife.

Church Marriages

Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. Many people, whether religious or not, still prefer to have a traditional ceremony performed by a recognized religious minister in a Church of their choice. These ceremonies are usually referred to as white weddings and are considered formal or semi-formal in the United Kingdom, Ireland and United States, as well as some other Commonwealth countries.

Multiple Weddings

Double marriages are quite rare as they usually entail getting two couples to marry at the same time and same place; this often happens where a person has a brother or sister that decides to tie the knot at the same time and it is not unheard of for two brothers to marry two sisters this way.

Getting Married in a Foreign Country

Marriages in foreign countries are called destination weddings where guests can arrive either just before the ceremony or actually travel with the couple; it doesn’t matter exactly where you travel to, whether it is in Egypt or just to Las Vegas it will still be considered a destination wedding.

Getting Married on a Weekend Break

Two day or weekend weddings are a great way to extend the ceremony and festivities as an increasing number of people are finding out. To cater for an expanding market a number of companies arrange special themed occasions that incorporate anything from golf to surfing. This is quite a good idea especially if the bride and groom have similar interests as both they and their guests can stay at the same location.

An Online Wedding Ceremony

Although unusual, you can even get married online and it will resemble a normal wedding or you can even have characters of yourselves get married; internet companies specializing in this type of ceremony are there to help you with your marriage. This can prove a useful tool where relatives and friends from around the world can see an online wedding take place in real time without actually being there!

Town Hall Weddings

Despite the term civil wedding, most services that take place outside of a Church, wherever that may be, are civil weddings which have to be carried out by appointed or elected judges, mayors or a justice of the peace. These ceremonies do not normally make any reference to God as they are a legal ceremony only. Often, this type of service will take place in a judge’s chambers, town or city hall or any other specially designated place.

Hopefully this article will have provided you with a few ideas for a wedding venue; many more exist however, if you want something completely different.
