Winners Don’t Do Different Things, They Just Do Things Differently

People talk about winners. This means there are losers and there are those that get by. Is it that winners are born to win and other are not? Is there hope for all the others? What Shiv Khera says gives us hope. He says “Winners don’t do different things, they just do things differently.”

Winners have a tendency to look at the bigger picture. If they are handling a project, they do not look only at what needs to be done by the day. Further they do not just look at what impacts only their area of work.

Very seldom is the situation where what you are doing does not impact others or is not impacted by others. By looking at the wider perspective and being aware of it will make a difference to you coming out a winner.

So often, we see people who segregate their work down to what they are responsible for only and do not consider how it impact others. Only to find at the end that they are forced to work with other people, by which time the relationship is nil or soured because of the unwillingness to look at things in totality.

It is not that the situation is different. It is the same. It is just that “Winners Don’t Do Different Things, They Just Do Things Differently”. Actions are the same. The approach is different. The attitude is different.

Unfortunately, those who choose not to do things differently argue on the basis of their job responsibilities and their scope and they win for the day. But in the long run they stand to lose.

So, next time you decide to say “no” to doing something extra, think first whether it falls under “doing things differently”. Not saying to do everything for everyone else. Do the things that will make the difference to the end result you are going after.

Maybe, you can have a reminder in your work place saying “Winners Don’t Do Different Things, They Just Do Things Differently”.
